Breaks Over…

By James

Happy New Year.

We’re heading now into the cup competitions. A bit of a bleak time awaits those who are knocked-out early, as you’ll get to sit out a few weeks between now and the end of the season, as league matches make way for cup weeks. There are cup weeks this week (w/c 9/1/6) and then w/c 23/1/6, w/c 6/2/6 and w/c 20/2/6, with the finals being played Saturday 18/3/6.

Our 3 teams each have a different competition to contest: The ‘A’ play in the Riley Cup, the ‘B’ in the Hayhurst Cup and the ‘C’ in the Seathwaite Cup. The ‘C’ team don’t have a game this week, as their first round match is to be held in the round 2 week… Don’t ask me why, I just report it.

The ‘A’ and ‘B’ are unusually both at home, playing Overton ‘B’ and Bolton-Le-Sands ‘B’, respectively. I don’t know what the points are, maybe it’s on the league website, somewhere… Oh, yeah, it is. The ‘A’ team match is an honourable scratch game and the ‘B’ team get a 60 point bounce on the ‘le-sands crew - scratch plays negative 60.

Don’t forget that points are everything and games count for nothing. Play the percentages when they’re serving and go all out when you’ve got the shuttle in hand. Good luck.
