Hi Everyone,

It was agreed at the recent club AGM that we have no option other than to wind up the club. As you will be aware we have been on the edge for a while and there was no prospect of us being able to field a team next year or maintain a viable club night due to lack of numbers, particularly women. The decision was not made lightly as the club been running for over 30 years but all good things come to an end and we move on. On behalf of the Committee many thanks for your support over the years and particularly last year to those who paid the increased subs up front to keep the club afloat. With this in mind we have decided that any remaining club funds will be split equally between last year’s members, I think there were 11 of us. We plan to hold a final get together on Wednesday 5th September at the new bowling alley complex above Johnny’s Fun factory on Morecambe seafront from 7pm, and I hope that as many of you as possible will join us to have a few drinks and maybe a game of bowling. Can you let me know if you are able to come so that we can get an idea of numbers.

Of course there are plenty of clubs around for those that want to continue playing badminton and I attach details of all the local clubs that play in our league for your information.

So once again thanks for your support and hopefully see you in September.

Best Wishes,

Torrisholme Badminton Club Committee (Kevin, Rebecca and Janette)

League now has a new treasurer, one Linda Simms from Hest Bank B.C.  Full details on League web-site.  So you can all relax!

The league are desperate for a new treasurer – it could be you!

See the original document here.

First of all a Happy New Year to all League members.

Since the resignation of the League Treasurer, June Coulson, at the A.G.M. in June 2013, and despite many requests we still are not in a position to appoint a replacement.

We are now coming to a critical time in our season with the impending Tournament.

In the absence of a Treasurer there will be great difficulty in that entry fees cannot be processed, Hall Hire charges cannot be paid, Shuttles, Trophies and other be items will not be able to purchased, this being due to the fact that at present there are no signatories to the League Bank Account. As you must appreciate this will cause many problems to the administration of the League.

Would any League member who wishes to be considered for the position of League Treasurer please contact either the Chairman, Mrs Gaye Jackson, or the League Secretaries, both of whose contact details can be found on the League Web-site.

The existing Officers of the League do not wish to take on this position and require new addition to the Committee to take over the role.

Kind Regards,

Brian and Hilary Greenwood
League Secretaries.
2nd January 2014.

The league have distributed the tournament entry forms to the clubs. Bizarrely, they are not available on the league website at this time, but there you go. Cynthia may have a few hard-copies, but you can download the entry form from http://bit.ly/74th_tournament_entry

Please also regard the following message from the tournament secretary. I assume our “BA of E affiliate number” is, in fact, our BADMINTON England membership number. You will have recently received your membership card with this number through the post (mine arrived between Xmas and New Year) – you didn’t throw it away did you!? Shame on you!

Let’s see if we can get a strong turnout this year, grab a few trophies!

Hello All,

We have new and exciting changes to our tournament this year as

  1. It is to be held at Carnforth High School, which has a

wonderful hall to play in and we are able to play there at a

    reduced cost.

  2. Due to this the costs remain the same as last year, but we do

need you to take part for them to stay this way.

  3. There is a singles handicap event which is open to both gents

and ladies, at the committee’s discretion. Ladies please don’t

    be frightened to enter.

  4. As the overall age in the league is increasing, it was decided

that the veterans events be changed to just over 45’s.

  5. PLEASE READ THE RULES. The handicap events have been

opened to people from outside our league under the proviso

that they are BA of E affiliated and registered to a club in our

  6. Everyone who enters will need to have their up to date

affiliation number and make sure it is on the entry form.

Should they not do this then the committee has the right to

refuse to let them play. If you cannot find yours, your club

secretary should be able to provide you with it.

Hopefully we will see you all again at the tournament.

Janette Lund

Tournament Secretary

Selector Shortage!

After only being able to find 2 selectors at this years AGM, we were already short-handed for this thankless and difficult task, but now I have word that Rebecca can’t make it to any of the first 3 selection sessions.

I’ll be getting involved, by the looks of things, and will be press-ganging others for assistance in the process. Your compliance and patience is sought and appreciated in these matters…
